New Budgets Mean Increased Hiring
Many job search candidates stop looking for employment during the last few months of the year because they believe employers do not search for candidates during the holidays. However, that could not be further from the truth.
At this time of year, employers are finalizing their overall company budgets and projecting manpower needs for the upcoming year. Once the human resource department receives the projected employee requirements, they begin the hiring cycle.
The reason employers begin searching for candidates this time of year is because the typical hiring cycle is generally between two to six weeks in duration, depending upon the level of candidate. Since employers know that it takes time to find quality candidates, they begin posting their positions now to ensure a first of the year hire date.
However, just because employers are searching for candidates to meet their requirements does not mean that getting hired this time of year is guaranteed. Most employers receive between 200 to 500 resumes for each position they post. From the resumes they receive, they must be able to discern the experience level and talents of each candidate. In my profession, I deal with many recruiters and hiring managers, and they say their biggest frustration is job seekers who do not portray their specific skills and accomplishments in their resumes related to the positions advertised.
So, what can job seekers do to ensure success this time of year? Job seekers need to have a resume and cover letter that truly speaks to their expertise in their chosen profession and strong accomplishments garnered throughout their career. This means clearly stating skill levels, position responsibilities and specific achievements that will show the employer the level of value which will be brought to their organization.
In addition, job search candidates also need to review job postings and match their experience with the requirements of the position. Job seekers then need to tailor their resume toward each position posting. While this may seem like a good deal of work, the rewards will be more interviews, and a better chance at a dream job!
